Pariyur Amman Temple
This temple is very
popular among the local people and there are two special
events here. One is keeping flowers and picking a single
flower (Poo Vaithu Vendudal) to decide on something. Different
flowers are kept in a vessel and the devotee picks up a flower
in random and based on the flower that he picked decides on
something. Each type of flower/color specifies a particular
decision like a Yes or a No. It is believed that Amman herself
has taken the decision. The other popular festival here is the
Chithirai Festival (Apr-May) also known as Kundam Festival,
where thousands of people walk over fire and invoke the
blessings of Amman. |

Tiruvengadam Udayan Temple
Considered as
Tirupathi of the south, this temple is over 300 years old. It
is believed that the main deity of this temple was found
buried in the soil, where the temple stands today. The
speciality of this temple is the Garuda at the corner, south
east corner to be more specific (Esaniya Garudan) of the
temple. Coconuts are broken at this Garuda Sannathi (Sathur
Tenkai) in order to fulfill wishes.. |

Vairakiya Anjaneyar Temple
The Balaji temple in
the small town of Tiruthiraipoondi houses a special sannithi
of Vairakiya Anjaneyar. It is believed that this Anjaneyar
here has the power to solve the problems of all devotees.
Whole coconuts without the outer layer being peeled off are
tied together as a garland and offered here. |

Ramanathaswamy Temple
This is one of the
oldest temples and it is believed that Lord Rama himself
worshipped the Shiva Lingam here. It is believed that if one
bathes in all the twenty two thirthams here all his wishes
will come true. It is also believed that if one bathes in the
sea here on Amavasya day, he will be relieved of all his sins
committed in his previous birth (Purva Janma Pavam). |

Arunachaleswarar Temple
This is one of the
biggest and oldest Shiva temples in India. It is believed that
one can get the blessings of this Lord just by thinking of him
from any part of the world.(Ninaithale Mukthi). This temple is
situated at the base of a hillock and people throng in
thousands on Pournami (Full Moon) Day to walk around the hill.
There are several Shiva Lingams and Sitthar Samathis around
the hill and it is believed that if one walks around the hill
one can get the whole hearted blessings of the Almighty. |
