Lalitha Sahasranama Homam is performed for prosperity and to protect from fear . Fridays and Tuesdays are the auspicious days  for this Homam. Homam includes chanting the Great Lalitha Sahasranama Mantra, offering the Ghee and boiled Raw rice, Athi chamatha , ithi chamatha and Peraal chamatha on the Holy fire. Sri Lalitha Sahasranamam is a hymn in praise of the Divine Mother Devi Sri Lalithambika.

Long ago Sri Lalithambika summoned, for the benefit of Her devotees, the Goddesses of speech Vasini Kamesvari, Vimala, Aruna, Japini, and Kaulini. She then told them: you all have diverse power of speech through my Grace, and you are empowered for conferring them on my devotees. You know the secret of my Sriyantra and you are all extremely devoted to my name. Therefore now I order you to produce a hymn about me. Let it include My One thousand names and be of such quality that by the recitation of it my devotees receive my favours without delay. The greatness of Lalitha Sahasranama is therefore inesteemable.

Addressing the great gathering the Divine Mother then spoke the following words. It is at my behest this pleasing unique psalm was sung by the deities of speech for any pleasure, Therefore, you all repeat it constantly and promulgate it among the devotees. If a devotee of Mine recites it many times, he becomes very dear to me and I grant his wishes. After worshipping me on the Sri chakra and repeating My Mantra of fifteen syllables, one should repeat this for my Joy . Even though the pooja and japa are omitted because of incapacity, recital of Sri Lalitha Sahasranama only, will certainly please me. Desires of reciter will no doubt be fulfilled when I am pleased. So do not omit the recital of Lalitha Sahasrnamam at any time. This is the declaration, says Hayagriva made by the Supreme Goddess. From that time onwards Brahma, Vishnu, Maheswara and other Gods and their Saktis started reciting this hymn in order to please the Divine Mother.
